The only PM in the room gets a room of their own.

A membership community for product managers. Charter rate through Sunday, October 18.

Product management is full of situations where there is no obvious right answer.

You have incomplete information. Competing incentives. A stakeholder who says one thing and means another. A team that sees the problem differently than you do.

You've got a read on what's happening.

But you're not completely sure.

And often, there's nobody around you who can really help.

At work, you're surrounded by engineers, executives, designers, marketers, salespeople, customers - people who understand their part of the problem.

But you may be the only person in the room whose job is to make sense of all of it.

Sometimes what you need is simply somewhere you can say:

"Here's the weird situation I'm in. Here's how I'm reading it. What am I missing?"

And have several experienced product people understand the question immediately.

That's the room I built.

Secrets of PM is a membership community where product managers bring the actual situations they're wrestling with - product decisions, stakeholder problems, career questions, difficult conversations, things that just don't add up - and think them through with people who know why they're hard.

Not another feed to scroll. Not another library of content to consume.

A place to get a second read when you need one - and to be the second read for somebody else.

Charter rate: $250/year through Sunday, October 18.

What happens in the room

I've hosted the free Secrets of PM meetup for almost three years - more than 100 sessions. Someone brings a real problem, and the room works on it. Three from the last few weeks:

  • A job-seeking PM asked why "Technical PM" postings read exactly like regular PM ones. The room gave him a handful of explanations - and a line to use in the interview.
  • Someone brought a decision framework he wants to consult on and asked how to sell it. What he heard back: lead with the story, keep the math as backup.
  • A member was asked to vet a startup idea. He ran it through the 5 Questions playbook. The founder had no answer to "why is this better than the alternatives?"

It is literally a sanity check... Okay, it's not me. I am reading the situation correctly. Everybody is struggling with this.

After coming to the free Friday meetup

What you get as a charter member

The Friday meetup is one hour a week, and it's staying free. The membership is that room, open the rest of the week.

  • The Kitchen Table (Tuesdays, 8am Pacific, live). Bring the thing you're stuck on and think it through out loud with people who've been in that meeting. It's a small table right now, so you won't wait for a turn.
  • A direct line to me. Post in the forums or ask me straight, and get 30 years of product management pointed at your specific situation. My intention is to be in there every day.
  • The Vault. Frameworks tell you how to think; playbooks tell you what to do Tuesday at 2pm. Three so far, with a long queue behind them.
  • Office Hours (Thursdays, alternating 8am and 5pm Pacific). A working session on one person's specific problem at a time. It starts up as soon as there are enough charter members to fill it.
  • Recordings of every call, so a missed week isn't a lost week.
  • A say in what this becomes. Charter members help shape the calls, the Vault queue, and what gets built next - before I start inviting the world.

There are times where AI just leads you astray. This is a place where you've got real battle-tested people, people with definitive opinions on things.

Who this is for

  • You're the only PM in the building (or one of a few), and your peers work on completely different products.
  • Your recommendations get politely heard, then watered down by whoever's loudest.
  • You got into product management sideways and figure everyone else took the "real" path. (There is no traditional path into PM. There are only PMs who think everyone else took it.)
  • You're job searching, and tired of guessing by yourself at what's working.
  • You've been doing this long enough that you have things to teach - and you'd like a room to teach them in.

Who it isn't for: if you want more content to consume, there's plenty out there (a lot of it free). This is conversation, about your actual problem.

Why I built it

For the last few months I kept having the same conversation. Senior PMs, years of real experience - stuck without anyone to check their read against. Not stuck on skill. Stuck on isolation.

This is the place I wish I'd had when I was learning, growing, and struggling as a product manager.

There's a lot I'd love to share with you (30 years' worth). But I don't know everything, and there are things I literally don't know anything about. That's what the rest of the room is for.

Bottom line: you can get a second read on your situation, and you can be the second read for somebody else.

OCTOBER

$250

per year ($500 after Oct 18)

Why $250, and why now

This is new. The membership opened at the end of August, and the room is still small. That's what the charter rate is for.

You're not buying a finished thing. You're getting in early on something built on almost three years of the meetup - with my full attention while it's small.

$250 for the year works out to about $21 a month, or under $5 per Kitchen Table. It's one annual payment, and the payment page lets you spread it out over time.

After Sunday, October 18 it's $500. Charter members keep the $250 price for as long as they stay.

And there's a guarantee. Try it for 30 days. If it doesn't feel like a fit, email me and I'll refund you.

I've already gotten $250 of value. $250 is super cheap - you're looking at thousands of dollars for similar things.

Questions

Is the free Friday meetup going away?
No. It'll keep running, free, same as always. The membership is a separate thing the meetup inspired.

How many members are there?
Not many yet - that's what "charter" means. What's behind it is almost three years and 100+ sessions of the meetup.

Is this a course?
No. There's no curriculum to get through. You bring the problem; we work on it.

I'm between jobs. Is $250 realistic?
It's one annual payment, and the payment page lets you spread it out over time. And career problems are fair game here, not just day-job problems.

What happens after I join?
You'll get a welcome email from me with a sign-in link (no password to set up). Then come to the next Kitchen Table: Tuesdays at 8am Pacific.

What happens after October 18?
Charter pricing closes at 11:59 PM Pacific on Sunday, October 18. After that, membership is $500/year.

Can I get a refund?
Yes. Try it for 30 days. If it doesn't feel like a fit, email me and I'll refund you.
